The building was built in the late nineteenth century in the years 1880 / 90 by an architect of Italian origin.
Occupied almost half the street frontage on existing Zuviría and currently on Home Street. Its architecture is within the period "historical eclecticism, reproduced details of current Italian and French architecture. Later towards the year 1942, when it was transformed into Hotel and because a city ordinance the building loses the right angle corner and displays the current "ochava".
Despite the changes, the Hotel Colonial is set up as a witness to much of the history of the city itself forged through the years, a unique and incomparable spirit certainly not go unnoticed by any of its visitors.
